This is what The Princess hates about Alan:
He loved to dine in restaurants to try out new foods. Ellen was the opposite. She hated eating in fine. establishments, hated the crowds in those places, and hated eating new foods. Ellen is the opposite of Alan in food tastes. Their names may sound alike or similar, but their personality traits are different.
Ellen is able to tolerate Alan’s food tastes and she tells him not to interfere with her plain tastes. She would always order standard dishes.
The real disparities that created differences are Alan’s silences. He does not talk much to Ellen. He speaks when he dislikes Ellen’s behaviors so much that he can’t tolerate it any longer. They always fight in the same cycle of actions. They would yell at each other, Ellen would. cry, and they would throw tempers at each other. They would part. After some time, when tempers have cooled, they would agree to meet, reconcile and go to bed together.
Ellen likes Alan because he has consistent habits and appears to be more reliable than her other boyfriends. He presents her with gifts of flowers and showers her with affection when he is in his romantic moods. (Kraf, p. 49)
After The Princess Ellen and George split up, she slowly got to know Alan. who works as a lawyer.
