Meditative poems Womb Song

Poet Esther Vincent lost her pet dog Ealga to cancer and she voiced her thoughts and feelings in verse. Her nostalgia is read in poems of taking care of Ealga, walks with her, feeding her in health and sickness, and finally, missing her as she looks at her empty dog bed. She writes of herself as a mother to Ealga.

Later in the book, she reverses the role of daughter and mother. She understands that even her mother needs mothering. She knows the need to take care of her mother.

What happens in meditation retreats, stays on as poems

This volume of poetry has verses speaking on Esther’s stays in meditation retreats. She interacts with the cat and dog in the area. She writes of their responses as insights into their worlds and how they return love to her.

Esther is a nature lover. Her observations are recorded in poems. She loves wild animals like the turtle, elephant, wolves, hummingbird, seal and fish. Even plants like the fern merit her mention in a poem.
