Ellen narrated how she met James Kulack (Kraf, p. 50). One night, while she was having one of her radiance episodes. James told her he is a wine merchant, from Baghdad. He paid attention to Ellen and they seemed to get along well. They spent the night together. When Ellen woke up in the morning, James had already left without saying goodbye. He left her a note saying he had to leave to take children to the beach. Ellen was left wondering whose children he was referring to.
