Fanny did gaslighting on the Narrator.

Who is Fanny?

She’s the protagonist in A Leopard-Skin Hat, a book written by Anne Serre. She has blonde hair in ringlets and blue eyes.

Woman with blonde ringlets hair and blue eyes.
Woman with blonde ringlets hair and blue eyes.

Fanny has blue eyes and blonde hair in ringlets. That woman looks like Fanny.

Who is the Narrator?

He’s a character in the same book. He’s Fanny’s friend; a platonic friend.

What is the gaslighting about?

From time to time, Fanny attacked the Narrator. She took. sadistic delight in gaslighting him.

“He would end up with his skin burning and a heavy heart, unsure how best to defend himself …” (Serre, p. 24)

Sometimes, one hour spent in Fanny’s company was so tiring that the Narrator needed to sleep for 11 hours to recuperate. (Serre, p. 32)

Fanny sometimes disrespects the Narrator. She told him that he was nothing. He did not achieve fame. She would say to him, You’re nothing, you.” The book’s narrator wrote, “He was hurt, of course.” (Serre, p. 48)

Fanny accused the Narrator of committing falsehoods, which he denied. Her goal may have been to make him uncomfortable, accuse him of misdeeds, humiliate him, manipulate him to feel guilty and make concessions to her, and any other intentions.

When the Narrator was wounded, “Fanny would rush over, terrified, bearing a gift and questioning him with her eyes.” (Serre, p. 24) The Narrator would forgive Fanny and acknowledge to himself he couldn’t fight Fanny and win. (Serre, p. 25)
