Peter Walsh used to be attracted to Daisy. He once thought he would marry Daisy. He returned to London, supposedly to see his divorce lawyers, to free himself from his old marriage. In order that he would be free to propose to Daisy. However, the way the narration went, Peter played a trick on Daisy. He traveled all the way back to London, to give her the impression that he was seeking his divorce, to marry Daisy.
