This isn’t the first time East Of Eden is being made into a movie or TV series. Netflix’s version will be released in 2026.

• Jeb Stuart will co-executive produce and co-showrun alongside Zoe Kazan. She is the grand-daughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 East of Eden film, that starred James Dean.

John Steinbeck’s writing

Steinbeck’s writing is realistic. I actually found this toad in the grass, “where a toad may live”, exactly as he suggested it. (Steinbeck, p. 7).

Steinbeck asks, “what time the birds awaken in the summer”? Very early, if you ask me. It depends on what species of bird. Hens and cocks may wake up at 3 am. The smaller birds start chiring at the first hint of daybreak, maybe at 5 am.

Toads and birds are commonplace and shared nature everywhere.

The genius of Steinbeck lies in capturing truth into prose.
