Gifty’s dad was called the Chin Chin man because he used to hang around Gifty’s maternal grandma’s food stand. He would spend time persuading the elder woman to gift him a free bag of achomo, which the locals call as chin chin. In Ghana, Nigeria and some parts of Africa, the achomo is nicknamed as chin chin. It is made from flour, butter, sugar, nutmeg, milk and egg. The mix produces a dough, which is molded into small balls and deep fried. If milk and egg are not affordable, these two ingredients are omitted.
