This is a mock up of the supervisor’s table, which is actually Fraulein Burstner’s bedside table in her rented room.

That book’s title was chosen to bring in some humor. Of course, at that time, Kafka’s novel was yet to be published so it couldn’t have been The Trial which was on Fraulein Burstner’s bedside table. If anyone is wondering, the pin cushion is in the shape of a tomato.
By the way, I bought that cover copy of The Trial. There are many editions and cover designs on sale but I so happened to have bought that cover design.
One of the interrogators had carried this small table to the center of Fraulein Burstner’s room, to be used as his table. This supervisor then rearranged those objects, placing much importance on them, as if they are going to play a role in Herr K’s interrogation. This is humor or dark comedy, to torture Herr K and make him take seriousness in this situation.
