Paul Rayley and Minta Doyle are characters inVirginia Woolf’s novel The Lighthouse. Minta unknowingly dropped her brooch while they were walking at the beach. Minta’s brooch was a heirloom from her grandmother and this memento meant a lot to her. Nobody suspected the meaning of this misfortune; it foretold the tragedy of Minta and Paul, after their marriage.
