The Haunting of Hill House is the creepiest horror book I’ve read. Shirley Jackson’s tale is even more scary than Stephen King’s The Shining.

This post is entered into #AtoZChallenge2026 April blogging. Today’s alphabet is J. The author reviewed is Shirley Jackson. I read her book The Haunting of Hill House.

One of strongest points made in the book is that we should leave haunted houses alone. There could be mysterious phenomena, events, or strange locations that can frighten us. Fear can induce other reactions that lead to consequences. Sometimes, the weak human falls because of their own vulnerabilities.

Haunted places hold no interest for me, and I won’t be reading this book.

I understand. I won’t be intentionally reading on real haunted venues. I read this book for its art of horror writing and how the author manages to write convincingly.

Thank you for reading this review.
