Christenze fashioned her wax child from wax and carried her under her right arm. The doll said, “I was borne by my mistress for forty weeks under her right armas if I was a proper child, and my wax was softened by her warmth.” (Ravn, p. 3)
The doll said Christenze took her to the pastor at night, when it was dark and quiet “and he christened me, the wax child.” This hints that since it was dark, the pastor might not have seen that the child was made of wax and not human. He was deceived and christened the doll.
This is my copy of The Wax Child. I opened the covers fully to show what is on the back page too.
