Joan’s ESP told her that something was abnormal

Joan Didion wrote that her husband, John Dunne, asked her to write a quote for his use, but later, he changed his mind, and told her she could use his quote for her own book.

“When I gave him the note the next day he said “You can use it if you want to.”

(Didion, p. 23)

Joan thought that John knew he would not be needing to use that quote in his writing, because he knew he would be leaving.
