John Gregory Dunne, Joan Didion’s husband, died at their home, an apartment in New York. He suffered a sudden, massive coronary attack.
It was a very stressful period for Joan as her only child, Quintana, a daughter, had just been admitted into hospital, for pneumonia and it turned into sepsis. Quintana had been 5 days and nights unconscious in ICU, when John suffered his heart attack. He died on Dec. 30 2003.
Around 1 1/2 years later, Quintana Roo Dunne Michael died, on Aug 26 2005. She had suffered from several serious medical illnesses. She passed away when she was 39 years old.
Didion passed away on Dec 23, 2023, when she was 87 years old. Her cause of death was from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
