Catherine Earnshaw, Cathy Linton and Cathy Heathcliff are all the same girl-woman

The first is the original. She fell in love with Heathcliff and desired to marry him when she grew up. However, Heathcliff was bullied like a servant at Wuthering Heights. Cathy then set her sights on their neighbor, the Lintons at Thrushcross Grange. She had a fantasy to marry Edgar Linton, so that she would get some money, to help Heathcliff. However, Heathcliff leaves to make his own fortune. When he returns, Cathy is married to Edgar Linton and has a daughter, who they named Catherine Linton.
The original Catherine wrote her name as Cathy Heathcliff in her book, which Mr Lockwood found and read. She nurtured a fantasy of marrying Heathcliff and was trying out her name as Catherine Heathcliff. Later, she nursed the idea of marrying into Edgar Linton’s money and she write Catherine Linton, to test out her secret musing.
The practice of writing out different surnames is a common fantasy with some people. They just desire to test out to see how their first name would look with different surnames.
Alas, her life was short and she could only realise her ambition as Catherine Linton.
